Brian De Palma's commercial breakout, based on a novel by Stephen King, helped launch a whole slew of teen-based horror films, and Carrie the blood-spattered prom queen has taken her throne in the pantheon of modern American myth. High school girls played by Amy Irving (in her film debut), P.J. Soles, and Nancy Allen plot to avenge themselves on ostracized fellow student and budding telekinetic Carrie White (Sissy Spacek) after they get in trouble for pelting her with tampons. When they get popular boy Tommy Ross (William Katz) to be her date for the prom, the stage is set for some heart-rending cruelty and fiery retribution. De Palma expertly uses split screens, slow motion, color filters, and tracking shots to imbue the proceedings with a haunting, allegorical elegance. Prom Becomes a Nightmare - Carrie
Pros: Entertaining movie with good cast. Cons: Some disturbing moments. Few things look slightly dated. Bottom Line: "It has nothing to do with Satan, Mama. It's me. Me."
Pros: Taut, tightly paced, fine adaptation, and good casting/acting Cons: None Bottom Line: Carrie: - They Can't Laugh At You If They're Dead

Pros: Stands up to any horror movie made in the last 20 years--and wins. Cons: What are you talking about? There are no cons to this movie. Bottom Line: Carrie by Stephen King - Just as shocking today as yesterday.
Pros: Great story. Wild movie. Massive cast. Cons: Just look over the fashions and hair. Bottom Line: The first Stephen King adaptation has me seeing red (Special Edition DVD review).
Pros: The fine performances, stylish direction, dark humor and believably rotten high school depiction. Cons: De Palma's stylistic choices aren't always sensible. Bottom Line: "The Curse of Blood" are the final words in supernatural teen angst, and CARRIE is the most close-to-the-bone horror movie to date about adolescent alienation and animosity. CARRIE
