Pros: Great frother, easy to use, works with pods or loose coffee.
Cons: Easily clogging sieves, questionable longevity?
The Bottom Line:
This machine is good for the average home user. Good coffee, fast and easy to use. However, it probably isn't intended for heavy heavy usage.
My wife bought me the Capresso EspressoPRO 112 Espresso Machine for my birthday 2 years ago. This was a BIG step up from my $99 Krupps machine.
Design: This machine is very cool looking. It looks good on the kitchen counter. It is heavy and does not feel at all cheap. Dial is multi-purpose to control steam and coffee production.
Coffee: The coffee grind is tough to perfect - and I would suggest a good burr grinder to ease the process. Once you have learned what works best with this machine you can produce a very good espresso with a nice crema.
Use: The Capresso is easy to use. You can either use pre-packaged "pods" purchased from Capresso, or grind your own favorite brand. Just tamp it down and go. The machine heats up quick and lets you know when its ready. Steam your milk into your cup directly with the draw-through steamer (I've never seen this system on any other unit but it works well for steam or froth) and pump out your java and you're done. No fuss, no muss.
Longevity: Sadly, my machine is dying. Steam has become unreliable and the coffee sieves let water through now at an unacceptable rate. Its not for lack of cleaning, believe me! It is just losing pressure or something. I don't blame the machine, I just think it wasn't meant for the amount of usage that we give it. I would say that I have sued this machine to make well over 1000 cups of coffee - possibly even 2000. Still, it would've been nice to keep on using this forever.
UPDATE: I ordered replacement parts from Capresso. They were very friendly and helpful on the phone and now the machine works like new again! I'm delighted. Parts cost under $25 including shipping. I'm set for another 2 years.
