Pros: Great Zoom Capabilities 22X, Above average sound, Great compact size, dual recording format.
Cons: picture a little dull in low light situations, need to buy the add on light.

This is a great buy for a mid-level digital camcorder or for someone who is looking to buy their first. I've owned the ZR70 for a little over 6months now and absolutely love it. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, but also didn't want to scrimp on features. My wife and I needed a good camera to tape our new baby girls first year! After countless trips to the store, I decided on the Cannon ZR70 as the best fit both feature wise and dollar wise.
Compared to other cameras in it's class and even above it far surpasses anything they have to offer. The 22X Optical zoom is phenominal! Some of the other features that are nice about the ZR70 are the built in image stabilization, the wide angle lens, and the large lcd screen, even the viewfinder is color..... We did not own a digital camera either so I was looking for a camcorder/camera all in one. Many of them have the capability, but they only store the still pictures on the digital tape which means searching for photos. The ZR70 is a dual deck video, and SD memory card camera. The camera comes with an 8mb sd card but that's easily upgraded. Although the still picture quality may not compete with high end digital cameras, it is right around 1mb and perfect for email and even quick print outs for the grandparents! which we loved. We also thought the size of the camera was perfect, not too big but also not so small that you need toothpicks to operate it!
If you're looking for a great bargain and a camera with almost all of the bells and whistles, the ZR70 would be a great choice.
