Great supplement to my digital SLR!

I have a Nikon D40, which I am absolutely in love with. If I weren't already married, I would seriously look into a state that allowed person to camera marriages to take place and we could marry and live happily ever ever after. Having said that, I don't always want to drag around a larger camera and the ginormous bag I always feel like taking "just in case" I need three other lenses and a big flash. 'Cause you just never know. That made the Canon PowerShot SX 100 IS a good fit for me.

For starters, it's pretty small, but not so small that my husband can't work the controls or buttons. These things are important. It can't fit in my jeans pocket, no, but it easily fits in my purse or even a coat pocket. For me, that's small and lightweight enough. I care more about quality than portability, but this offers both.

Aside from being small, it takes great pictures. As good as my SLR? No, but then again, I didn't expect it to. It does take quality pictures that most people are going to be delighted with. If you are a professional, you aren't going to use this for your photo shoots. But then if you thought you were, maybe you should look into a new line of work.

Another thing I love is the video. The video quality is actually better than our old video camera, so we got rid of it and actually have to take less stuff with us now. This is a great little video camera, and the ease of getting it from the camera to the computer is super easy and fast. Now I need to go get more video of my kids while they are still cute. :)

You do have to manually pop the flash up on this camera for it to work. I don't have a problem with this, but it is something you may want to be aware of, as is the lack of a viewfinder. I understand these are going away on smaller cameras so they can have bigger LCD screens. Again, it doesn't really bother me, though I do admit to putting my face up against it a few times before remembering that I'm not using my Nikon.
