Top Quality Results from A95

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: photo quality!! ease of use scene modes fit & feel in hand

Cons: a bit on the heavy side zoom/telephoto is not very refined

The Bottom Line:
There may be others with a smaller & lighter body, but the A95 will not be surpassed by others in its class in terms of photo quality!

Author's Review
As an amateur photographer with a desire for high-quality photos, I struggled to choose between the Canon A95 and the Sony DSC-W1. I did all the research and tested them at local electronics stores. Without having the luxury of buying both and trying them for several months, I went with the A95 and have been very pleased. The picture quality is very precise and colors are vibrant. I have tried a few of the scene modes (beach and snow - imagine that?!) and liked them. The camera, although very heavy, fits nicely in my hand and allows for easy maneuvering of the controls. The menu is quite manageable. The rotating LCD screen in nice and the Auto-Rotate feature (upon playback) is also handy. There's not a ton of "give" in the zoom/telephoto. It seems you go from wide to narrow in a millisecond, without a lot of stops in between for precise distance. However, assuming you believe this to be an acceptable "con" (along with the weight), I would say with confidence that the A95 is a steal. To get a 5 MP camera with the auto and manual features that it offers, you can't beat the superb photos you'll get from the A95.
