Author's Review
Before I purchased this camcorder, I was considering the Canon GL1 or the Sony DCR-TRV900. Both were above the $2000 mark, so I waited for something new to be released that was around my $1500 budget. Weeks later, I hear about the Canon Optura Pi, and it fit my needs. It has progressive scan technology, which shoots 30 frames per second and makes the picture u take more "movie-like." I didn't believe at first, but when I went to the Wiz to try it out, I definitely saw how amazing it looked. Compared to my Hi-8 Sony TRV-85 camcorder that I purchased 3 years ago, the color rendition is absolutely phenomenal. Also, the 3.5" 200k pixel LCD screen is bright, has beautiful colors, and is a perfect size for my needs. My only gripe is the battery life, which is a little longer than one hour; also, the VCR controls are right about the LCD screen, which is annoying if I wanted to hook up the camcorder to a TV without wanting to waste the battery by having the LCD screen on. But I guess that's why Canon supplies you with an awesome remote control. Succinctly, I'm in love with my new camcorder. Simply awesome! Highly highly recommended.
