This camera has the features I need.

Author's Rating: Rating: 3/5 stars

Pros: Easy to operate, lightweight.

Cons: Playback isn't terribly sharp, but that could be lack of video experience on my part.

The Bottom Line:
I am pleased with the features and the feel of this camera. I would recommend it to someone looking for a reasonably priced first camcorder.

I have put off buying a video camera for years. When those occasions arose that I needed to videotape I would borrow a camera from a friend. Needless to say, the results weren't always what I had hoped for when using a strange camera with only a few minutes to acquaint myself with it's workings.
My daughter is now at an age where there are lots of concerts, plays and sporting events to attend and I finally broke down and bought a camera of my own.
I did a little research and decided that I wanted a Hi8 camera and didn't want to spend a lot of money. The Canon ES75 fit the bill. The one feature it doesn't have is the LCD screen on the side, it has a color viewfinder instead. I don't miss this feature, because I have a hard time focusing on those grainy little screens, but some people love them so I'm mentioning that it doesn't have one. The viewfinder is easy to see through.
There are lots of setting to help make a good tape. Some to help adjust for backlit subjects, snowy scenes etc. There are also some special effects like black and white, sepia tone and others. Titling and dating are there too.
It took us a little while to figure out how to get it to playback through the VCR because the directions were not very detailed, but it was simply a matter of fiddling with the channel settings.
I am pleased with the features and the feel of this camera. I would recommend it to someone looking for a reasonably priced first camcorder.
