I have had a total of two HP's over the last 10-12 years. The only reason I upgraded to my second printer (952c) was because of newer technology. I print a lot of photos, so after about 4 years of use on my latest printer, I decided to upgrade again. Nothing wrong with the HP 952c...just wanted newer technology.

My one complaint with HP printers was the lack of individual ink tanks. They finally came out with the 8250, but after reading reviews from users that were mostly negative, I decided to look at the new Canons.

I thought the prints from my 952c were good....until I compared it to the Pixma 4200. In my opinion, prints from the 4200 rival that from photo labs. In fact, using the Pixma 4200 and Costco (Kirkland) photo paper, quality was better than the prints I got from Costco's photo lab.

It's got two paper trays, so you can keep regular paper in one and photo paper in the other. You can switch trays with the press of a button. It's got the individual ink tanks with an LED on each cartridge. The LED flashes when the ink level is low or if the cartridges are installed incorrectly. According to the Canon rep I spoke with, you can print until ink actually runs out. When that happens, a message will appear that you are out of ink, you then replace the cartridge and press resume and your print will then finish printing flawlessly. I haven't gotten to that point yet so I can't say for sure. Another feature that I like is when the output tray is in the closed position, your document won't print. This will prevent paper jams.

If you're looking for a good printer at a low price...look no further. This is one printer that you will be happy with.
