The Linksys Compact Wireless-G Broadband Router is really three devices in one small box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect both screaming fast Wireless-G (802.11g at 54Mbps) and Wireless-B (802.11b at 11Mbps) devices to the network. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Connect four PCs directly, or attach more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. Once your computers are connected to the Router and the Internet, they can communicate with each other too, sharing a printer, digital music, picture and document files, and multi-player or on-line games. Solid Little Performer

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: Little box with big abilities, easy to set up and use, and works well.

Cons: Wish the optional external antenna came with it - just in case.

The Bottom Line:
Sure bet especially for the novice.

Author's Review
A newcomer to the ever expanding world of wireless technology, I was apprehensive about purchasing a wireless broadband router. I read up on this new fangled stuff, researched the available products, and resolved to purchase the Linksys WRT54GC.

It attracted me because:

1. Trusted name brand with numerous favorable reviews from Epinions, Circuit City, and Amazon websites.
2. Compact (aprox. 4” x 4”).
3. Price around $60.00
4. Security: WEP or high Security WPA Personal encryption and SPI firewall.
5. Internal antenna with option to purchase external one for even longer range.
6. 4 port switch
7. All-in-one internet sharing router.
8. Able to connect to Wireless-G and Wireless-B devices to the network.

Some specifications as listed on the Linksys WRT54GC Compact wireless -G broadband router box:
• Standards -IEEE 802.3, IEEE802.3u, IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.11b
• Ports/Buttons – Internet: One 10/100 RJ-45 Port, LAN – Four 10/100 RJ-45 Switched Ports, One Power Port, One SMA Port, One Reset Button
• LEDs -Power, Internet, Wireless, Ethernet (1,2,3,4)
• Power – External 3.3V DC, 2.0A

Minimum requirements and package contents as outlined on the box:
• 200 MHz or faster processor
• 64 MB Ram
• Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape Navigator 4.7 or higher for web-based configuration
• CD-ROM Drive
• Windows 98SE, Me, 2000, or XP
• Network Adapter

Comes with: compact wireless-G broadband router, setup cd-rom with Symnatec Internet Security, cd-rom user guide, power adapter, Ethernet network cable, and registration card.

Set up was a snap! I couldn’t have asked for anything easier. The cd guides you through step by step. It was up and running in no time. I have had excellent connection throughout my home and no problems whatsoever.

I am pleased with my purchase of the Linksys WRT54GC. It is priced about the same at Best Buy and Circuit City. I bought it at Best Buy as I had a 10% coupon off due to recently buying a notebook computer there. I paid $53.99 for mine.

I am still learning a lot in this newly ventured wireless area. So far, I like what I see.
