My 1st Bunn lasted 10 YEARS!!!
| Author's Rating: |
|
Pros: Caffeine Addict Friendly, 3 minute brew time, My last Bunn ran for 10 years
Cons: Would feel better with an automatic shut off, Could look a little less commercial
The Bottom Line:
Look - I take my coffee drinking very seriously. My friends use to tease me about my restaurant coffee maker...that is until they bought there own Bunn.
We thought it was about time to replace our 10 year old house warming present - a Bunn Commercial Quality Coffee Maker. Can you believe that a coffee maker that cost less than $100.00 would last for 10 years? One of the few things we own that "Owes us nothing".
Now let me tell you about my coffee habit. I buy whole beans and grind them every morning. My coffee cups hold 16-20 oz each. I drink only specialty beans like French Roast, Sumatra, etc. I would never consider allowing "store brands" to reside in my cabinets. I'm drinking coffee right now and it's midnight!!! I love coffee and life just wouldn't be worth the living without it. On a recent visit to my doctor, who boldly suggested that I cut back a little...I looked her square in the eye and told her to "try prying the cup out of my cold dead hands".
O.K. so on to why I bought another Bunn coffee maker last week. My first Bunn had a 10 year life span (maybe we were just really lucky) and we retired it. Bunn actually gives you a 3 year warranty which I feel is pretty generous. The product is made here in the U.S.A. and that is always a plus for me when I shop.
The new model, a 10 cup version, the B10-B has a brewing time of less than 3 minutes. This miraculous feat is achieved because of Bunn's ability to bring commercial style brewing into the home. The water that you pour into the top of the coffee maker in the morning is replacing water that is already heated in the reservoir from the last use. The reservoir has a separate switch, with a vacation setting, that allows the Bunn to keep water heated at a perfect brewing temperature.
This heated water "sprays" out onto the grounds to insure complete saturation and a rich full body taste. The taste of coffee brewed is almost always consistent.
One noted improvement in the design from 10 years ago is that the coffee won't begin dripping down until you close the top of the water reservoir. I use to have to use a separate carafe to pour water through in order to avoid brewed coffee dripping onto the burner.
This is Key so listen up....It won't tell you that you forgot to put the carafe under the spray head and it will brew a whole pot of coffee without a carafe. Not to worry, a roll of paper towels and you are back in business. Don't laugh, this happened to me this morning.
This is why I am glad that the Bunn is easy to use and doesn't employ any fancy smancy circuitry like programmable timers and brew settings. Hey, my VCR still blinks 12 a.m. do you think I really want to deal with programming my coffee.
I come down in the morning, fill the carafe with 10 cups of cold water, put a filter into the grind basket (nice and easy to clean plastic), measure my coffee and pour my water into the top of the machine. In less than 3 minutes I'm sipping some hot joe and you are probably still waiting for your brewer to start brewing your coffee. I bet you even stick your cup under your brewer because you just can't wait for a whole pot to brew!
The carafe is dishwasher safe. A de-liming tool and coffee measurer is included. Spray head unscrews for cleaning. This model is stainless and black, not exactly sleet and it isn't going to win any prizes for style but...who cares right, it does what it's suppose to.
