December 2006 Update:

Yes, we drink a lot of coffee. After 2000 pots (I buy filters in packs of 1000), it started to leak from the top when I poured the water in. After disassembling the top part, (easy, 3 screws) I determined that the plastic of the top reservoir had deteriorated and rotted away around the fitting that passes the water to the heating tank below. I went to the Bunn website (www.bunn.com) and contacted customer service on the web form and explained my problem. Within 1 week, I had received a FREE repair kit that fully fixed the problem! Try that with ANY other manufacturer! Kudos to Bunn!

We are inveterate coffee addicts. We have tried every brand of coffee maker in existence for years and years. We have finally settled on this Bunn.

Our main problem with coffee makers has been durability. None of them would last for more than a year or so no matter how well we cleaned and maintained them. The three year warranty and what I read from others made us fork out the bucks for this guy. This isn't a perfect story, as I'll have to admit that I was a little discouraged when the first Bunn machine quit heating after about six months. I was able to return the broken machine and get a free replacement from Bunn in about two weeks time. The replacement pot is now two years old and still working great. I have never had another pot last this long. At least the warranty passed muster, and it seems I got one bummer.

The brewing is as fast as advertised. You get a full pot in under 3 minutes. I had to grind my coffee a touch coarser than I had been for slower drip pots, or it would overflow the filter.

Some complain here about not being able to brew small amounts. All I can say is that they haven't tried! I grind a smaller amount of coffee, Fill my mug with cold water, Pour it into the machine, place the same mug under the filter basket, and close the lid. I get exactly one mug of coffee out!

The flavor of the coffee is great.

There are a few sacrifices to be made.

To get the speed, the pot keeps the water hot all the time. It will use a little more energy that other types. This also means that if you are leaving for several days, you need to flip the vacation switch. Over time the water will evaporate and you next pot is diminished in volume.

There is no timer, but since a whole pot brews in 3 minutes, this is not such a big deal for us.

There is no stop drip mechanism. You need to keep something under until the whole desired amount is brewed.

The pluses:

1) Fast Coffee
2) Great tasting coffee
3) Can brew whatever amount desired.
4) Warming plate switches separately from brewing.
5) Durability after one aborted try.
6) Great warranty, which unfortunately I got to test.

The Minuses;

1) On all the time
2) Can't remove pot until finished.
3) Fairly large.
4) Expensive.
