Very well built kettle

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Very well built.

Cons: Water level meter hard to read... its behind the handle

The Bottom Line:
Highly recommended. Perfect for the job it was intended to do... boil water.

Author's Review
My partner and I got tired of heating water for tea on the stove since we heat at least 2 gal per day! I decided to get it for Christmas. It looks great and best of all performs just the way it should. It is very sturdy and solidly built. There is blue light to indicate when it is on and a light "ping" to let you know when its done. It is not lighting fast but does the job.
Some of you had certain problems and complaints... I will explain why I don't feel they are:
- The kettle DOES get HOT on the OUTSIDE... just like any other pot and skillet in your house! Hold it by the handle and don't touch the sides!
- You can hear the water rumbling when it starts to get hot. What do you expect when you heat the water up this fast with a hot element!
- The "ping" is a bit light sounding... but if you can forget that you put a kettle on for tea, maybe you shouldn't be making tea by yourself. It turns off anyway at the end of the cycle when it pings so its not a safety hazard.
- The biggest complaint I've read is with the horrible smell... let me explain. The smell is coming from the rubber gasket on the lid. Most rubber will have a period of smell until the rubber smell gets evaporated off while hot... this is not harmful and is just the natural smell of the rubber (I work in rubber processing). It does take a while for the smell to go away (3 weeks or so), but in my testing it did not contaminate the water as some have claimed... I use only distilled water to make my tea and I will tell you I could tell if a taste got in the water... I've tasted the water without tea in it... Mostly its in peoples head.
I have not been at all disappointed with this kettle so far. We'll just have to wait and see how long it lasts!
