Braun does it again! A great shaver!

Compared to the top of the line Norelco, this shaver outperforms it in closeness, usabilty, and performance. I'd highly recommend it.

I've always been a Braun man. My last 3 shavers were Braun and when it came time to replace my latest shaver (I replace my shaver every 3 years, which is usually when they don't hold a charge well anymore) I decided to try a Norelco 8894XL.

The bad news (for the Norelco) is that after a month, I just couldn't live with the semi-close shave and almost impossible to use sideburn cutter so I went out and purchased this Braun 7680 to replace it.

So what do I like about the Braun? Pretty much everything. You can read my other review on the Norelco if you like. The Braun shines in several areas:

First, it shaves very close. A run across my skin after shaving and it's silky smooth (or as smooth as one could expect from an electric shaver).

Second, the sideburn trimmer is easy to use. It's i a position that when extended allows you to hold the shaver naturally and in a comfortable position (compared to the Norelco where you have to flip it around and sorta hold it upside down to use).

Finally, the area right below your nose is quite easy to reach with the Braun. With the Norelco I felt I had to push the shaver into my nose and even then it couldn't each all the hair there.

So this is a brief review, mainly because there's everything good say and nothing bad. If I had to question anything, I'd question the necessity of the automatic cleaner. I'm sure it will keep the shaver cleaner but I wonder if it's really necessary.

September 2004 update: A little more than one year later, I thought it would helpful to post my impressions one year later. One year later, the shaver continues to shave fairly well. Battery life however is not as good as when the shaver was new. I used to be able to charge every 10 days, now I get at most 5 days from the shaver before recharing. There have been some occasions that the battery died while on the road and I had to revert to the Norelco. Hands down, the Braun still does a closer shave. I'd still recommend this shaver.
