I love to cook but at times there just isn't too much time to whip up something tasty and nutritious. Especially when you have to locate a grater, a whisk, a blender, a chopper and still find room on the countertop to prepare the ingredients before you even start to cook them!

I really had my heart set on a Cuisineart because I wanted to become a little chef but I just couldn't afford a $200 food processor. So I had to look around. And the next best thing that I found on the shelf that could possibly do everything I had ever dreamed and hoped for was the Braun Multiquick Professional MR 5550 M HC + BC Handheld Blender under $80.

And presto! A little chef I went on to become........

What do you get with the Braun Multiquick Professional Handheld Blender?

1. Motor Part, which sorta resembles a flash light with electric cord with:
two speed buttons - one variable and another a turbo speed button. The variable button responds to a timer looking dial (that you set) on the tip of the motor that ranges from speeds from 1(low) to 5 (highest). The motor part also has some nice texture grip surfaces and two quick release buttons at the bottom, which you squeeze when unlocking the motor part to any of the mountable extensions or gear boxes (see HC and BC choppers).

The Mountable extensions include:

3. Whisk Gear Box and Whisk

You also get:
4. Wall mount to put your motor part, which is also the handheld part of the unit, away.
5. Measuring beaker with airtight lid
6. HC Chopper (small cup, with specific blade, chopper gear box (the connecting lid to securely lock into the handheld motor), and anti-slip base/lid).
7. BC Chopper (big jug with specific blade, chopper gear box, ice blade, ice crushing insert, anti-slip base/lid)
8. Instruction booklet in English, French and Spanish

What can it do?

* The handblender is perfectly suited for preparing dips, sauces, soups, mayonnaise and baby food as well as for mixing drinks and milk shakes.

* The whisk is great for whipping cream, beating egg whites and mixing instant puddings.

* The choppers (HC & BC) are perfectly suited for chopping meat, cheese, onions, herbs, garlic, carrots, nuts, etc. (NOTE: Do not chop extremely hard food such as nutmeg or coffee beans in either chopper.)

* The HC chopper is great for preparing smaller quantities and especially suited for chopping herb dn chiles with water.

* The BC chopper is great for preparing larger quantities and for hard foods like parmesan cheese or chocolate in addition to crushing ice, mixing frozen drinks and milk shakes, pureeing soups and preparing batters.

1. Protein smoothies with fruit
2. Creamy, frothy milk shakes
3. Ground flax seed
4. Make walnut crust mixture for my cheesecakes
5. Quick homemade mexican salsa
6. Margaritas and frozen cosmopolitans
7. Chop and puree veggies

(I know my list is small but I am learning new things to cook each day.)

I love the Multiquick Handheld because:

1. It takes up little space on the counter top.
2. Easy to clean up. Most parts are dishwasher safe while others require hand cleaning.
3. Very quiet motor.
4. So versatile - uh makes you forget there is such a thing as Cuisineart!
5. Turbo speed is amazing!
6. Easy to hold on to - it won't make your hand tremble!
7. Blades are very sharp that they get the job done. So please becareful of leaving blades out in the open in the reach of children.

The instructions come with visuals in order to condense a universal approach to explaining what the handheld can do. It gives you tips as to what each chopper, HC and BC, are capable of. But with a little bit of the imagination, you will find ways to use it every time you prepare something.

I was disappointed that the booklet only came with 3 recipes: Mayonnaise, Guacamole and Ice Cream. I haven't tried any of them........but check out this easy ice cream recipe:

Using the BC chopper,
100 g (3 1/2 oz) frozen raspberries
10 g (2 tsp) powdered sugar
80 g (1/3 cup) cream
Place all ingredients into the jug, press the turbo switch and blend for about 30 seconds. Serve at once.
