Bose Acoustimass 10
I have to say I am somewhat perplexed by the absolute hatred by so many people of a product which they do not even own. I am amazed that of the 10 current negative opinions written, only 1 person claims to own the product, and yet they speak with absolute authority about how terrible they are.
Well, I do own them, and I love them. If you are looking for a complete speaker system this is a great way to go. One nagging issue when assembling a system is trying to balance out Sub woofers with your main drivers and center channel, and then what about the surround speakers. With the AM 10 you get 5 identical speakers that all run through the subwoofer/cross over making them perfectly balanced.
The packaging is excellent, everything you need is in the box, and there is also a nice instruction booklet that provides setup suggestions.
I keep reading about how there is not enough bass. I think that these people must be under powering these speakers; I run a 100-watt amp and have plenty of bass. Sub woofer placement does make a significant impact, so maybe they arent placing the sub in a good place. Of course if youve only listened to them at the store you wouldnt know that. However, if you do not have a very powerful (like 35 watts) you might want to go with the AM 15, which is essentially the same set-up, but is powered.
I can say this, if you are the kind of person that I can hear the bass from you car, with your windows rolled up and with my windows rolled up, than Bose probably does not have enough bass for you. There is certainly enough to get me in trouble with my neighbors!
We use the system for home theater and music with a Kenwood Dolby Digital receiver.
Titles like Armageddon and the Matrix sound awesome, we also listen to a wide range of music and it just sounds great with everything you put through it.
Yes, you may be able to find a better combination of individual speakers at the same price, by matching this speaker and that. But I would argue that it is subjective to your listening tastes and it sure wont be as easy.
I own these speakers and love them!

Pros: Beautiful sound, excellent balance, extremely clean, great looks.
Cons: You may be bludgeoned by a Bose hating whacko if you buy them.
The Bottom Line:
If you want great sound out of the box,go with Bose. If you dont have a powerful amplifier step up to the AM 15s which are powered.
