Comfort Plus Capable but not Durable

Pros: Strong and capable.
Cons: Weak transmission that won't last the long haul.
Bought a Comfort Plus about five years ago so my wife could make homemade bread. It is powerful and dough hook very effective in mixing. However, after about 4 years, the transmission went out. I had it repaired locally at an appliance repair shop for $200+. He said that the transmission had stopped providing proper support for the plug in the bottom of the mixing bowl allowing liquid to leak into the motorized base unit and eventually leak out onto the kitchen counter. I brought it home after the repair and it hasn't worked since. The repairman said that the transmission is the weak link in these mixers and that I should have replaced the transmission but at $300 for a replacement, one can buy a new unit. At $429, I expected that I would have a fully functioning unit for a long time, not just a while after the warranty expired! Hence, the capable, but not durable.
