While this gorgeous coffee table book celebrating America's national parks might be labeled by some as a companion to Ken Burns's PBS series, there is little question that it stands alone among books on the subject. Duncan and Burns combine awe-inspiring photos with fascinating prose to document the history and wonder of the most beautiful wilderness in the nation, including iconic spots such as the Grand Canyon in Arizona, the Everglades in Florida, and the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, as well as lesser known paradises such as Haleakala in Hawaii, the Kenai Fjords of Alaska, and Biscayne National Park in Florida. From the first official national park, Yellowstone (founded in 1872) to the most recent, Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado (2004), Duncan and Burns provide a detailed account of each of the 58 national parks, as well as the amazing story of the parks system itself, a shining achievement which remains one of America's foremost contributions to world history. Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: Pictures are really wonderful and well displayed.

Cons: Story jumps around a bit, as the film did.
