Review of Bloodwake by Stormfront Studios for Microsoft Xbox

Pros: looks cool
Cons: everything else
The Bottom Line:
rent for a night, maybe, but never, never buy this.
Bloodwake is a pretty standard 3rd person vehicular shooter, with a twist. The twist? You're in a boat riding over fairly realistic water.
The element of interacting with waves and timing attacks concurrent with that movement brings a little freshness to the game. The sad part though is that aside from that, it is action thats been seen a million times and been done a million times better.
The controls are a bit akward at first, although once learned, are overly simple and uninvolving.
The game is fairly uninvolving as well. There is a weak narrative plot thrown over the whole thing to justify it's mission-based gameplay. Essentially this is just a collection of smaller 3rd person shooter arenas all bundled together under a non-interactive "purpose". I completely zoned out the story, it's simply unimportant to the game. The missions as a whole are unbelievably mediocre. This is just standard fair, no imagination is injected into anything.
But, it looks good, for a never-launch title anyway. The water looks great, the boat models are nice. The lighting isnt that hot, but it's not too easily noticed on the water. The arenas are mostly vast, empty shells of water surrounded by cliff walls or beaches, very boring, very little variety.
Unfortunately, this isnt a tech demo, it's a game, and it's terribly boring past an hour or so.
