This wine is from United States, California region, Carneros sub-region. Cuvaison's Napa Valley Carneros Merlot comes from our 400-acre estate in the southern part of Napa Valley. This cool climate vineyard allows us nearly perfect conditions year after year to produce world class Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Merlot. Controlling all farming aspects within our own vineyard gives Cuvaison an advantage in producing the best quality fruit, therefore minimizing over manipulation at the winery. Winemaker Steven Rogstad, sums it up best, “My style and philosophy are based on expressing the unique character of our estate grapes and doing as little as possible to them. When one has such wonderful fruit to work with, that should be one's emphasis.' . Color: Deep, rich shades of blackberry. Nose:Truffle, mocha and cherry with a hint of clove and peppermint. Palate: Bright red fruits with cherry and violet notes. A full bodied Merlot with rich fruit, supple tannins and great persistence. MERLOT Wine California Still Wine

Arietta Red Wine Variation One is a blend of Merlot and Syrah, also from the Hudson Vineyards. The N Block is the only vineyard in our extensive experience with Merlot which naturally yields two and one half to three tons of fruit per acre without requiring thinning or hedging. This naturally balanced vineyard is a unique phenomenon; a gift from nature which is reflected in the harmonious quality of the wine. Syrah, from Hudson's Hermitage selection grown in gravel unusual in the Carneros, is co-fermented with the Merlot to give the blend a wild and penetrating quality. If the H Block wine is an homage to the Right Bank of Bordeaux, Variation One is a Napa Valley original. The plum and licorice aromas of Merlot blend imperceptibly with the forest floor, wild game qualities attributable to the Syrah in a wine without antecedent anywhere in the world. The vinification, barrel ageing, and bottling are similar to the Arietta H Block wine. Variation One may be served young, especially with wilder dishes, but the powerful, if supple, tannin will support its evolution in bottle for at least ten years.

This wine is from United States, California region, Napa County sub-region and Napa Valley appellation. Vintage Notes: A wet beginning to the year and continued rainfall well into spring delayed bloom and fruit set. Cool weather throughout summer into September lead to concern about ripening the larger than normal crop. Fog lingered where warm weather would typically prevail to ripen grapes. Though later than normal, warm days arrived to start harvest in earnest.Winemaking Notes: After harvesting the grapes at an average brix of 25.3, the must was fermented in stainless tanks at 85 F. The wine was drained and pressed off the skins after 21 days. Completing malolactic fermentation in barrel, the wine was then racked and placed back in barrel to age for 16 months. Oak profile during aging was 37% new oak, of which 84% was French oak and 16% American oak. Overall barrel aging profile, old and new oak, 80% French oak and 20% American oak.Tasting Notes: Aromas of earth, dried herbs and cherry. On the palate, medium body, lush fruit flavors and balanced acidity with a long finish that has a tingle and a tang and starts the evening with a bang. MERLOT Wine CALIFORNIA STILL WINE

Grapes are hand harvested from the Whalebone Vineyard. They are de-stemmed, partially roller crushed and the must is chilled to 3oC into fermentation tubs. A 3-day cold maceration precedes the beginning of fermentation with selected native yeasts. After fermentation, the wine and skins are sealed down for a further week of post fermentation maceration before draining and pressing directly into French oak barriques. This wine is from United States, California region, Napa County sub-region and Oakville appellation. Paradigm Winery, located in the Oakville appellation of Napa Valley, hand crafts small quantities of estate bottled red wine. Marilyn and Ren Harris founded Paradigm Vineyards in 1976. Both of the owner’s roots are entrenched in the Napa Valley - with Marilyn’s family dating back to 1890 (her grandparents actually came to Napa from Italy to grow grapes) and Ren’s family first immigrated to California in 1769. The renowned Heidi Peterson Barrett has been their winemaker since day one! Heidi’s father actually helped design their small but very functional winery. About thirty percent of the grape production at Paradigm is used by the winery and the balance is sold to other high end wineries including Groth, Nickel & Nickel and Duckhorn. The vineyard is now planted to 7 blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon totaling 37 acres, 3 blocks of Merlot totaling 12 acres, 4 acres of Cabernet Franc, 1 acre of Zinfandel and 1 acre of Petite Verdot. To give you an idea of the type of terroir in this area, nearby vineyards include Harlan, Martha's Vineyard, Dominus, an Opus Vineyard, and a Quintessa Vineyard. Throughout their ownership of Paradigm, Ren and Marilyn have been advocates for the Oakville appellation, environmental stewardship and they farm sustainably.. The formation of the DOC Cortona in 1999, the immediate affirmation of the region's suitability for international vines, and the friendship of the Aliotti Tommasi family, owners of premium lands, were all decisive factors in the initiation of Poliziano's enological project in Cortona. Convinced of the distinctive potential of the Merlot cultivated in the Pliocene clay of Cortona, we began bottling "In Violas" in 2006.

This wine is from United States, California region, Napa County sub-region and Napa Valley appellation. The 2008 growing season has produced a particularly complex and complete expression of Napa Valley Merlot, combining bright, lifted red fruit elements with darker, more extracted layers. This depth is on display in the aromatics, where notes of Asian spice, red currant, plum and blueberry crisp are supported by a subtle streak of earthiness. The palate is both velvety and balanced, with flavors that echo the aromas. These flavors are held together by granular tannins and accented by oak-inspired notes of molasses and nougat. The grapes for Twomey Cellars come exclusively from the Soda Canyon Ranch in southeastern Napa Valley, where the rolling hills of volcanic soils are tightly planted with French Merlot clones selected for their low yield of small, intense berries. The shoots are trained vertically for optimal sun and air exposure. This wine is from Israel, Judean Hills region. The 2004 Cabernet-Merlot-Shiraz is Cabernet Sauvignon dominated (56%), with the Merlot (33%) and Shiraz (11%) filling out the rest of the blend. It feels full in the mouth on first attack, but actually has an elegant mid-plate. There is a tannic grip on the finish, and the initial fruit forward presentation is deceptive, as the structure is good. It opens quickly, and the fruit is sweet and flavorful. There is a touch of herbs in the background. A tasty presentation that packs a punch, it is a short list contender for the finest value in this report. Drink now-2013. ... Read more
Our winemaking philosophy is to reflect the terroir from Apalta by crafting a wine based in CarmenA"re, with Merlot and Cabernet. A truly hand crafted wine, we nurture our vines and attend to every detail to preserve the potential of the grapes. We hand harvest the fruit very early in the morning in small 14 kilos cases. The grapes were 100% hand de-stemmed in our Clos Apalta Winery so we maintain complete control of the quality. We fill our French oak tanks by gravity. Then nature does its work, allowing native yeasts that slowly ferment the must into wine with temperature control less than 26A C. Macerations lasted for about 4-5 weeks and during all that period we did manual punch downs to extract enough compounds from skins and seeds to get the desired structure and concentration. We rack the young new wine straight into 100% new French oak barrels by gravity. Malolactic fermentation happens in barrels, where the wine stays for 22 months, ageing patiently. The wine is bottled by gravity without any treatment or filtration.

This wine is from United States. 'The best of the best' is a phrase often heard, but in the case of the Ameritage Reserve, it is simply a statement of fact. Winemaker Gino Razzi, after inspecting, tasting and retasting every barrel of Ameritage, selects those few that truly show unique and special qualities. Each vintage of Ameritage is a new journey for winemaker Gino Razzi, as each vintage presents different qualities to be understood and expressed in the finished wine. The 2004 Ameritage Reserve is a blend of many grapes - cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, petite verdot, merlot, sangiovese. The only qualification to be part of this blend is that the grapes are the very best, and that, each in their part, contribute a quality to the completed assemblage.Rested for 2 years in 100% new French oak barriques, this wine is deep ruby in color with a core that is nearly black. Its power and complexity dance around its freshness and vitality. This is all wine combined to make one great wine. The cassis, plum, tobacco, cedar, and sweet spice notes sing together in harmony, counterbalanced by silky tannins and a soft fleshy texture. This wine is a great counterbalance to many dishes, but is perhaps best sipped after a meal for long hours of conversation and contemplation. This wine can to be enjoyed now, but it will evolve with another 15-20 years in the bottle.60% new French oak180 cases produced Wine OTHER DOMESTIC WINE

The wine was aged in 40 percent new oak (primarily French) for 14 months to integrate juicy, plum, black cherry and toffee aromas and mouth-coating flavors, supported by enticing sweet vanilla, cedar and spice components. The debut release of our Napa Valley Merlot is the result of many years of vineyard and winemaking experimentation. Over the last decade, Winemaster Ed Sbragia and I have witnessed the steady development of fruit character in Merlot from our Dos Rios, Gamble Ranch and Big Ranch Road vineyards. Located from the cool southern end of the Napa Valley to the relatively warm microclimates of Yountville and Oakville, these vineyards provide important components that allow the wine to show the broader personality of the Napa Valley.-Laurie Hook, Winemaker

This wine is from Australia. R Wines is a new company founded by importer and marketing genius, Dan Philips, along with co-owner, renowned winemaker, Chris Ringland. Winemakers for R Wines are Chris Ringland, Lisa Wetherell, Andrew Hercock, and John Hughes. It encompasses four familiar labels, Marquis Philips, 3 Rings, Roogle, and Bitch, along with 13 others created especially for R Wines. Needless to say, the packaging of these wines is amazingly creative but, more importantly, what is in the bottle consistently over-delivers from low-end to high-end. The R series features Cabernet Sauvignon from the Barossa and a Rose of Cabernet Sauvignon from McLaren Vale. The labels portray different takes on the letter “R'. Consumers owe it to themselves to read the witty back labels. The Marquis Philips wines have established a six year track record of delivering a big bang for the buck. The wines are now made by a team put together by Dan Philips and Chris Ringland with absolutely no change in quality. Starting with the 2006 vintage, however, all of the fruit is sourced from McLaren Vale. The other change of note is that Merlot has been dropped from the program, primarily because of the difficulty of finding Merlot good enough to merit the M-P label..
