Cup-at-a-time? Why not?

This product does not make a great cup of coffee, but it's small, convenient and very cheap, so why not?

The first thing I want to say about the Black & Decker Cup-at-a-time is that it truly does not make a good cup of coffee. It makes bearable coffee. That said, here is why I use it and why you might consider keeping one on hand:

I don't have a lot of space in my kitchen and a full-sized coffee maker probably wouldn't even fit on my counter. I like a good cup of coffee, but first thing in the morning, I'll take whatever coffee I can get my hands on, even if it's not so great. When I used to make half a pot of coffee, I would just end up throwing the rest out after I had finished my one cup. With the cup-at-a-time, I'm not wasting coffee. I get my one cup, no more, no less.

Why buy this? Well, I say only do so if you can get it cheap. Mine was $10 Canadian, so about $6.50 or $7 US. At that price, it's worth it just to have on hand in case your usual coffee maker is abducted by aliens or just breaks and you're standing in the kitchen one morning thinking to yourself "Oh, I'll just die if I can't get my hands on a cup of coffee right now!" We all know that feeling, I'm sure. It's also good if you're just not picky about coffee. It has its own filter, so that you don't have to buy any. The problem I find is that the filter is too fine and I end up with a residue on the bottom of my cup. Not tasty, I can assure you.
It may be the kind of appliance you would take to the office, the cottage or camping or... I don't know, I'm being creative. The point is that it's cheap, it works quickly, it makes hot -if not delicious- coffee without taking up much space. It's the kind of thing that's just good to have on hand. Why not?
