Works great & it's a must have for the traveler...

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: Allows changing of batteries. Great for travel.

Cons: Makes ipod bulky. Can't find carrying case to accommodate the ipod with battery pack.

The Bottom Line:
It's worth the money. It allows more flexibility with the ipod when you're out. The bulkiness is preferred over a dead battery.

I was a little weary of getting the ipod in the beginning after reading review after review about the seemingly short battery life and non-replaceable battery because I enjoy listening to music on plane rides and other times when I can't get to an outlet to recharge. Then I found the Belkin battery pack. The pack is a little big and makes the ipod a little bit heavier but it works great on the airplane when I'm not carrying it anyway. I have yet to find a carrying case that will accommodate the ipod with the battery pack so walking around with it will require it to be carried in hand, in a pocket or in a purse so that can be a draw back...it's still not as awkward as carrying around a portable CD player though.

The way it works-- There are 2 suction cups that attach the pack to the metal back of the ipod and it stays on securely even when you tug on it. The pack holds 4 AA batteries and supposedly gives up to 14 hours of extra battery life (I haven't tested it up to that yet). The pack it's self is not much larger than 4 AA batteries lying side by side. It attaches to the ipod through the dock connector. In order to use the power from the AA batteries you just flip a little switch on the pack. There are 4 LED lights that you can illuminate by the push of a button to see how much battery life is left in the AA batteries. At first I thought you had to remove the backing to see the LED lights but they illuminate through the case so that it is unnecessary to take the back off of the pack to see them. NOTE: The AA batteries will not charge your ipod battery.

All in all it's a little on the bulky side compared to the compact and sleek design of the ipod but it definitely does the job if you need more battery life. I wouldn't recommend it if you plan on needing more battery life when you are being active (running, jogging..etc). It is however awesome for the plane, the car (if you don't have a car charger) and sitting at your desk at work!!
