The Z3 enters the 2000 model year undergoing numerous changes. New for 2000, exterior revisions include chrome rings around the headlights, L-shaped tail lights and white turn signal indicators, similar to those on the M coupe/roadster. In addition, six new exterior colors and two new interior trim combinations were added. The interior is upgraded with the addition of a three-spoke M Technic sport steering wheel and a redesigned center console with analog clock. The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system is now standard on all models except for the M coupe/roadster. The enhanced Harmon/Kardon audio system remains standard on all 2.8 models. Optional equipment includes leather seats, an on-board computer and a power moonroof.

The Bottom Line:
Great Car, and well worth the money
I love my 2000 Z3 2.3. It is the perfect first car, small zippy, handles great, and it feels like a sports car to drive . The 170 HP 2.5 liter engine in my Z3 isn't the most powerful engine, but it gets the car moving, and quick too. The car's light weight helps that rather weak engine make the car still fast enough to have quite a bit of fun in.
Driving on country roads is simply stunning with the top down, it takes me back to the days when cars were made to have fun in, not made to have every single gadget ever. The suspension feels tight, and keeps you on the road. This car is NOT for people who will have to drive it in bad weather though.. it's handling in wet weather deteriorates significantly, and driving it in the snow is just a no-go unless you have special tires.
Even so, this car is still a great weekend driver, and captures the essence of a 2 seater convertible. The exhaust sounds great, and with the top down, the exhaust sound is exhilarating. My only complaint is the "shuddering" and sound system. The car shudders when it goes over bumps, it's not as solid as a BMW M5 or even the BMW 3 series. The sound system sounds great with the top up, but with it down it gets drowned out easily by the sound of the wind.
In my opinion, the car looks beautiful, and the swooping lines make it look just sexy. The interior is unlike any other car, and looks very retro. Looks are more of a personal opinion thing than most other judgments, so just look at pictures of the car and decide yourself, but the fact that you can see the hood from the drivers seat makes it feel even more like a long hood small car sexy vehicle. With the top up, looking at it from the side gives the image of a shark, sleek and mean.
The comfort of the interior is pretty good, the leather is stiff but comfy. This car is not a cushy comfy car, so don't expect the squishy seats in American cars. The sport seats (which my model was equipped with) are great, they hold onto you in turns and "hug" your body. The manual transmission is great too.. smooth shifts and the shifter feels good in the hands. If you are considering buying one of these used, get a manual.. the automatic transmission ruins the car.
