The 1998 5 Series sedan is available in three models. For 1998, the 5-Series is available with a new Head Protection System as standard safety equipment. Additional safety features include rear side air bags and an impact sensor which unlocks doors and switches on interior lights and hazard flashers in an accident. The optional Sport Package includes sport suspension, 17-inch wheels and leather bucket seats on the 528i and sport bucket seats on the 540i. Standard features on all models include automatic climate control, power door locks and windows and memory settings for the steering wheel, mirrors and seats. Optional equipment includes a Navigation System, heated seats and steering wheel and a premium sound system with cassette.
