D1730 DVD Player

Pros: size, clarity, portability are great, it's been flawless playing.
Cons: Audiovox does not support it's 1 year warranty. Pricy repair ($186) for plastic hinge.
The Bottom Line:
Sound, portability, clarity, and ease of use are very good. Made of plastic, not supported by Audiovox warranty and for that I would NOT recommend this.
My wife has the DVD1500 and it's been perfect for a few years. I wanted the newer screen of the D1730, and it's viewing has been perfect. Very good sound, all the needed cables for the car. Pricy I think. But for viewing and portability I give it 4 stars.
HOWEVER, the right hinge broke flat off. With the screen opened there is a clean break on the side where the DVD goes in and on the back side of the screen. The spring won't move back at all, so I say there is/was a flaw in the plastic or the spring. Audiovox says it's been abused and they want $186 to fix it. $393 for a piece of plastic to be 3 months old and handled like eggs ~ I don't know about everyone reading this, but at $400 no one but me handles this and it's gently. Anyway, the con - no warranty yet they claim a 1 year warranty. On sale at CompUSA for $359 in 2/2003 (it's 449 4/17/2003), with tax 393.
