Pros: Great Sound Quality (HDCD), AMAZING SOUNDS
Cons: um....
The Bottom Line:
If you'd like to find out what the BLUE MAN GROUP is all about, buy this CD and bask in the glory of experimental percussion :)
When I first listened to this great CD, I was absolutely bowled over. The sound quality is great - choosing HDCD as their medium was very smart. In case you don't know, HDCD is a mastering process (High Density CD) which allows the standard to contain more information in more channels of sound. This mastering can only be felt on a CD player with HDCD capability, but the mastering process does make the CD sound very crisp and audible on a system that doesn't support the HDCD mastering process. Anyways - the CD grows on you in an amazing way. It was one of my favorite percussion CDs ever - NOW it ranks up there with my personal favorite (Tabla Beat Science's "Audio Maze").
"Audio" is truly a work of art. The whole album is experimental, filled with the rockin' beats of homemade instruments, made from everything imaginable, including PVC pipes (PVC IV - great example).
My personal favorite is Rods and Cones. That songs is the first i had heard. GREAT! However, in terms of quality, I think every single song is great. EVERY SINGLE ONE. This is most certainly not one of those CDs you buy on an impulse, and enjoy 2-5 songs. You enjoy all of them. GREAT!
I highly recommend this CD (ok, ok, technically - HDCD) to anyone interested in percussion. Percussionists, people who love the beat, people who love techno stuff, people who like dance stuff - whatever. As long as you don't approve of Britney Spears genre music, u will, almost definitely. (NOTICE: I said almost - don't get mad at me if you have unusual music tastes :). If you do like Ms. Spears "music," I don't believe you'd be highly interested in ONE OF THE BEST CDs I'VE EVER COME ACROSS.
