There was no blueprint when the Acura MDX was dreamt up. No past to contend with. Just an idea -- the one the other SUVs had tiptoed around. The handling of a performance, luxury car, and the freedom and common sense of an SUV. Taking note, our engineers applied breakthrough technology to create the unthinkable. The luxurious, quick-handling, all-weather MDX. In 2004, the Acura MDX delivers additional horsepower, more torque and a host of refined features. Like new projector-style headlights and dual exhaust on the exterior. And inside, standard side-curtain air bags, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System, a power-adjustable lumbar support, new Bose® tweeters and 40% more room in the second row slide.

Peppy, Sporty, Love It! Annoying Stereo, though.

Pros: Turns on a dime, nice interior, roomy 2nd row seats.
Cons: My 6'2" husband can't extend his left leg while driving. A pain on long trips.
The Bottom Line:
Slight annoyances outweighed by practical features and great performance.
I really like my MDX and have had no problems. The pick-up is great and it is easy to maneuver. It has not been in the shop at all except when I was in an accident.
My husband does not like the car because he cannot stretch out his left leg while driving as he can in our other vehicles. We recently checked out the Jeep Commander, which has plenty of leg room for him, but were surprised to find that it's 2nd row seats were not as roomy as the MDX. This is important for our tall kids who are still growing, and adults who ride in my car for business. So we opted to stay with the MDX for now.
The stereo is my only gripe. The "mode" button on the steering wheel is in a bad place which gets hit accidentally all the time. So you inadvertently end up changing to a CD or AM. Also, the pre-set buttons for the radio are not the kind you press twice for two different stations. You have to change the mode to get to your 2nd set of pre-sets. Now THAT is annoying. And the buttons on the steering wheel only do volume, mode and going forward to pre-set stations. You can't scan or seek from the steering wheel. Of course these things have nothing to do with the performance of the car, but they are little quirks it is good to know about!
When the third row of seats is up there is very little cargo room. Another slight annoyance that we were looking to solve with the longer and roomier-looking Jeep Commander. Surprise, surprise! Even less room in that one when the 3rd row is up. Once again, the MDX won out. So this car is going to be a keeper for us for a few more years.
