The 1997 TL Series is available in two models - 2.5TL and 3.2TL. New for 1997, the TL Series features variable intermittent wipers and new alloy wheels. Standard features include auto. climate control, power driver seat and tilt steering wheel. Other standard features include an AM/FM cassette stereo, power moonroof(3.5TL), CD player and power windows, mirrors and locks. Safety features include four-wheel ABS brakes, child safety locks and side door beams. The optional 2.5TL Premium Package features a power moonroof and leather interior, while the 3.2TL Premium Package includes power passenger seat, traction control, heated seats and heated mirrors. Dealer installed options include a compact disc changer and floor mats.

Looks great. Faster than you can believe. Reliable. What's not to like?
I bought this used with 34K miles on it. Bought the 100K extended powertrain warranty, have used it once because the starter motor began to fail. Saved me $700. Uses no oil, gets 24-26MPG on the highway, will do 95MPH all day long. Fabulous stereo, love the non-sticky leather seats. I live in the Arizona desert and just drove over 1000 miles back and forth to southern California - and the heat indicator stayed stuck at 1/3 - in 110 degrees, 95MPH or crawling in traffic, it stays cool. Doesn't actually require use of premium fuel, though I do on long hot trips.
The only handling or performance issue is that the transmission doesn't like to downshift sometimes, making the car feel slow.. so I use the 4speed automatic stick - very Mercedes-like. An amazing motor, love the moonroof, reliable power everything, plenty of rear seat passenger room. Did I mention the great stereo?
UPDATE DEC 2004. The car has 66,000 miles on it now, and all I've had to do is change the oil. Brakes and shocks are still fine, rides solidly. Motor is still strong. Has developed an irritating rattle in the dashboard in the past few months.
