This is the Santa Claus figurine designed by Painter of Light Thomas Kinkade that recites 'Twas the Night Before Christmas in the artist's own voice. The scene is sculpted from polyresin and handpainted in meticulous detail, including the flowing script on the spine of the book in Santa's hand, the wrinkles on his forehead, and the presents at his feet. His coat and hat are made from dyed fabric and trimmed in faux fur. Behind Santa, a miniaturized painting can be illuminated by its gallery lamp that turns on at the flip of a switch in the display's base. The Christmas tree has built-in fiber-optic lights nestled among the multi-colored ornaments and rich, green foliage that give off a twinkling ideally suited for the dimensions of the scene. The resin display is painted to look like mahogany and has a brass title plaque. With a hand-numbered certificate of authenticity. Switch activates talking and lights. Includes AC adapter or can operate with three AA batteries (not included). 12 1/2" H x 11" W x 9" D. (6 3/4 lbs.)

Here at Philo Hooke Publishing we celebrate our Heritage with Victorian and Vintage Christmas Cards. Partly because of the beauty and sentiment but also it brings us back to simpler more peaceful times. The sending of commercially printed Christmas cards originated in London,1843. People exchanged handwritten holiday greetings, first in person, then via post. By 1922, homemade Christmas cards had become the bane of the U.S. postal system. The first Christmas card designed for sale was by London artist John Calcott Horsley. A respected illustrator of the day, Horsley was commissioned by Sir Henry Cole, who wanted a card he could proudly send to friends and acquaintances to wish them a Merry Christmas. Horsley produced a triptych. Each panels depicted a good deed; clothing the poor and feeding the hungry. The centerpiece featured a party of adults and children, with plentiful food and drink. The first Christmas cardÕs inscription read: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Merry was then a spiritual word meaning blessed, Of the original one thousand cards printed, twelve exist today. Printed cards became the rage in England; then Germany. It required an additional thirty years for American. In 1875, Boston lithographer Louis Prang, a native of Germany, began publishing cards, and earned the title "father of the American Christmas card." PrangÕs high-quality cards were costly, and they initially featured not such images as the Madonna and Child, a decorated tree, or even Santa Claus, but colored floral arrangements of roses, daisies, gardenias, geraniums, and apple blossoms. It was cheap penny Christmas postcards imported from Germany that remained in vogue until World War 1. Today more than two billion Cards are exchanged annually.

Christmas takes a turn for the grim when a team of Finnish archaeologists unearth a man who appears to be Old St. Nick, only to find that the legends of a jolly, gentle cherub couldn't be further from the truth. Enraged at the multinational corporation that underwrote the excavation for disrupting his village's annual reindeer roundup one of the few yearly events that help to keep the local economy afloat single father and reindeer hunter Rauno (Jorma Tommila) is shocked when his frail son, Pietari (Onni Tommila), makes a curious connection between the high-profile dig and the story of Father Christmas. The local reindeer herd has been viciously slaughtered, and now all of Pietari's friends are vanishing without a trace. When Pietari looks beyond pop-culture history to unlock the real truth about Santa Claus, he learns that his young friends have every reason to fear this Christmas. By the time Pietari realizes what's happening in his small town, however, it's already too late; Santa's helpers are closing in fast, and this year the naughty kids will be running scared.
