Pros: Great music quality, sleek design
Cons: ipod battery eater
The Bottom Line:
A must for any iPod mini owner.
In the state of Wisconsin, it is illegal to drive in your car with headphones on. Which makes perfectly good sense, but is a real bummer if you buy all of your music off of iTunes or don't own any cds any more. The Griffin iPod Mini FM Transmitter eliminates that run in with the headphone law by playing your iPod's music over the radio.
I bought the Griffin iPod Mini FM Transmitter because I received my license this spring and needed a way to play my music over the radio. Not having a five disc changer cd player, one cd can get boring on long trips.
Design
The Griffin iPod Mini FM Transmitter is 2 inches wide(the same width as the iPod Mini), about a half an inch in depth (same depth as the iPod Mini), and an inch tall. These dimensions make the transmitter very nice when on top of the iPod because it can stiff fit in your pocket with ease.
Performance
The Griffin iPod Mini FM Transmitter plays best on a FM frequency playing nothing but static. Right out of the box the FM transmitter plays on 87.9. Depending where you live, there may be a radio program on 87.9. If so, that means a little setup is required using the included CD-ROM and iTunes. Fortunately, this setup up is very easy and only takes a few moments. The installer adds a playlist to your mini (through iTunes) called iTrip Stations, which consists of a series of short audio files that correspond with all available FM frequencies.
Once the transmitter is plugged up you can pick through songs as you usually do on the iPod(with the scroll pad) but hear them through the radio.
Anything else I can use this for?
Nope, sorry. The two prongs(the male headphone jack and the flat rectangular prong) only fit into a ipod mini. Don't but this for a regular iPod, Griffin makes separate transmitters for the full size iPods.
Hows the durability?
I have dropped and kicked my Griffin iPod Mini FM Transmitter across the floor once and it is still working as it did right out of the box. It should be fine as long as your not running it over with a tank or throwing against a brick wall.
All Pros in a bundle
-Works for anyone with a iPod and a FM radio
-Sleek design fits iPod Mini perfectly
-Doesn't distort the quality of the music too much
-Runs right off the iPod mini's battery
Get your Cons here
-You can pick up other people's iPods with Transmitters
-Sometimes requires a lot of tuning to hear the iPod properly
-Sucks up the battery
Overall
Great thing to hear your iPod over the radio. You can finally get rid of all of your cds because with this you will only ever need your Pod.
