Although Jeep got plenty of attention for the Rescue concept vehicle that debuted in Detroit earlier this year, no one figured anything like it would ever see a showroom floor. Recent spy photos suggest otherwise, however, as the prototypes bear the same kind of boxy, over the top styling as the concept. Built on the same platform as the new Grand Cherokee, the Commander will be slightly larger and incorporate a third row of seats. Hemi power will no doubt be part of the package along with plenty of built in off road ability.

Pros: Versatile, comfortable, reliable, strong, you forget your driving an SUV.
Cons: Likes the gas.
The Bottom Line:
I would recommend this car to families because of the roominess, versatility, safety and great features. Paid half of sticker price and Jeep was only 2 years old.
I got our '06 Commander Ltd with 4.7 litre V8 in 2008 used from a JEEP dealer, it had 68000 km on it. Didn't want the HEMI due to poor mileage. We needed V8 as we have travel trailer to pull and the 4.7 is more than strong enough. Very happy with it as family vehicle. It's classy looking (my daughter's teenage friend called it a "sick Jeep", apparently that's a compliment) and great for long and short trips. Very comfortable (I've even sat in the 3rd row seats for a short trip and it wasn't the worst), the 2nd row seats even recline. We had a blizzard last January with 2 feet of snow on city streets, many cars were just stuck and not moving but we just sailed thru with no problem. My wife won't drive our 2nd car unless she absolutely has to. Ours is loaded with heated seats (use all the time), trip computer (also use regularly), Rear park assist (couldn't live without now), auto wipers and auto hi-beams and tire pressure sensors. We wish the mileage was better but can live with it due to all the pros. Only problem since we got it has been the weather stripping around the rear window needed replacing ($50).
