Although Jeep got plenty of attention for the Rescue concept vehicle that debuted in Detroit earlier this year, no one figured anything like it would ever see a showroom floor. Recent spy photos suggest otherwise, however, as the prototypes bear the same kind of boxy, over the top styling as the concept. Built on the same platform as the new Grand Cherokee, the Commander will be slightly larger and incorporate a third row of seats. Hemi power will no doubt be part of the package along with plenty of built in off road ability.

2006 Commander safety hazard
| Author's Rating: |

Pros: Big and Bad will go anywhere.
Cons: Too many to list, but the biggest is the defective ECM module
The Bottom Line:
Do not put anyone you care about in one of these!!!
Safe?
What a joke that is with this thing,
I bought my Commander in 2006 as a demo with 18.000 miles on it.
It now has 28.000 on it so I have only put 9.000 miles and three oil changes on it I tell you this because I want you to know how well I take care of my car.
That being said, My car is now at the dealer because when your driving down the road (and it don`t matter how fast or slow) it will just shut down, no breaks, no steering nothing.
The dealer says it needs an ECM module and that Chrysler has 1000 of them on back order and dont know when they will get them.
The service manager told me that the car is unsafe to drive.
Chrysler had a major recall on the 4.7 liter 4x4 commanders for the same reason, over 24.000 of them were recalled, but they have not issued a recall on the 3.7 4x4s that have the same issue.
The National Highway and Traffic Administration has 394 complaints on the commander for this reason and is investigating it again.
There is one complaint where a woman was even killed while driving a 3.7 4x4 commander, that too is under investagtion.
When my car shut down, I was on a small incline and I had only then emergency break to keep me from rolling backwards.
Friends, I was scared out my mind.
Don`t put your family in one of these, you may regret it
