Best car I've ever owned!

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Most amenities come standard, those that don't can be purchased without breaking the bank.

Cons: I wish the radio controls in the steering wheel included a channel changer.

The Bottom Line:
Great price, great ride, attractive styling, many standard amenities, best warranty, built in America, what's not to love!?

Okay I've only owned this car for 2-months, but I'm already ready to call it the best car I've ever owned. I purchased my 2006 Sonata LX "Used" from Budget Rental Car with 9,700 miles on it so basically they broke it in for me.

My LX was the top Sonata model for 2006, in 2007 the same car would be called the "Limited". The 235hp V-6 power is outstanding! The car runs so quiet at idle that on a couple occasions I had to look down at my tachometer to see if my engine was running after being distracted following start-up and forgetting whether I had started the car or not. Quietness doesn't stop at idle either, this car runs quiet in motion as well. The LX has 17" wheels and low profile tires which gives this car a sport car feel so you can really feel the road. If you want a softer ride you may want to go with one of the lower level Sonata's that have the 16" wheels and regular tires which will feel cushier and probably a bit quieter, but will have more body roll in the curves as well.

My LX has the top option package as well so it comes with all of the bells & whistles. Oh sure you'll get people complaining that it doesn't come with Blue-tooth or a navigation system, but at this price the luxury items that come standard with this car would cost you hundreds if not thousands extra on other cars so let's be serious when leveling such criticism! I also see people write reviews that say the exterior body style is a negative or boring, I disagree whole-heartedly as it was the cars exterior look that made me check it out! I saw a 2006 or 2007 Sonata in a grocery store parking lot and thought it looked so cool that I went home and researched it, two weeks later I bought one and I just love it!

The 3.3 liter V-6 is rated for 20mpg city/ 30mpg hwy, I drive almost exclusively in the city, albeit not major metropolitan city driving, and I am averaging around 21.4mpg. All car manufacturers use an out of date method of figuring their cars average MPG ratings so when was the last time you saw a car get the MPG they said it would get let alone exceed it? I never had until I bought this Sonata. How do I know what mpg I'm getting, yes the car comes with an led screen that gives you your mpg average, along with other screens for trip time, distance/range the car has based on remaining fuel in the tank, odometer, average MPH. How about climate control, auto headlights, auto rearview mirror dimming, links to open your garage door opener or a few other linked services that you can choose, 5-speed automatic with shiftronic for those who want to go from auto to standard transmissions, heated seats, power everything including heated exterior mirrors, cruise control, radio controls built into steering wheel, the list goes on! The drivers seat even has lumbar support which has eliminated the backaches I used to get while driving my old car.

I actually look for excuses to go somewhere now because this car is such a joy to drive! If this car holds up over time, and I suspect it will considering Hyundai is confident enough to give it the best warranty in the car industry, then I will be a Hyundai buyer for life. Take this car for a test drive, I don't just think you'll want to buy the Sonata over the Camry & Accord just because its a better value price-wise, but because you'll like the car better over all!
