Ford scores a hit in the mid-size class

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Price, comfort, well equipped and lots of pep from a 4 cylinder

Cons: Handles like a much larger car, ABS optional.

The Bottom Line:
If you want luxury, options and performance at an economy price this is the car for you.

Ford's replacement for the original Taurus is a perfect 'Fusion' of price, performance and style.

I can't begin to say enough positive things about my Fusion SEL. It's roomy, comfortable and stylish for a mid-size sedan and its 2.3L Intec 4 engine has the get up and go of a 6 cylinder. The only thing that confuses me is why ABS is not standard equipment on the SEL while side curtain air bags are.

For the price the Fusion can't be beat. The SEL is the top package. The only options available that mine doesn't have is the ABS, leather interior and sun roof. The sticker on my Fusion was $21450.00 and came with all the bells and whistles you'd expect to find on a much more expensive car. Along w/ power everything in the interior the basic SEL also includes 17" wheels, power mirrors, AM/FM in dash MP3 six disk radio, electronic automatic climate control and leather steering wheel w/ integrated duplicate radio, cruise and climate controls on the wheel.

Additionally my car included package code 120A which includes:
5-speed automatic trans
driver, passenger and side curtain air bags
anti theft perimeter alarm
heated power mirrors w/ puddle lamps
electrochrome mirror
trip computer w/ compass
automatic headlamps

This is a very well equipped car for the money and has the feel of a full size sedan. There's nothing that looks or feels cheap on the outside or inside of the vehicle. The intec 4 engine and 5 speed trans delivers more than adequate HP from a stand still or at HW speeds. And the fuel economy is great. I do a fair mix of city/HW driving and I average 27 mpg! The auto trans actually gets better mileage than the standard trans on this vehicle.

While it has adequate horsepower and a smooth ride the handling leaves a little to be desired. It handles more like a full size car which means parking in tight spaces can be a little tricky. I frequently find myself having to make more than one attempt to fit into a parking space. Something I never had to do w/ previous cars or trucks I've owned.

In conclusion you won't find a better equipped car for the money any where on the market.
