The Bottom Line:
If you want a comfortable, luxury, capable, powerful SUV for less that its competition, get the QX4!
I have owned a 2002 QX4 for over a year now. I bought it used last year when it was only a year old. At that time, the car already had 50K miles on it, but was in amazingly perfect condition.
To be honest, I went to buy a Q45, but when I saw the QX4, I just fell in love with it. In the prior models, the biggest drawback was the weak 170hp engine. However, Infiniti fixed all that in its newer QX4s with the 240hp powerplant, that really moves the car. Of course, you are not going to get stellar 0 to 60 times, but you never feel that pressing the accelerator generates no reaction from the car.
What surprised me the most was the car's suspension. I expected a very SUV like ride, but what I got was completely different. I owned a 1996 Maxima before this car and the QX4 has a much more "pleasant" suspension. The ride is plush yet firm and the suspension absorbs road impurities very well.
I have actually had the chance to take this car off-road. It felt confident and strong. Never got stuck anywhere. The 4x4 sustem is great, easily controled and works perfectly. I also drove it in the snow and felt as if I was in a tank.
Overall, I think the car looks great and although resebles a Pathfinder, it is so much more. I simply love the front grille and the 17 inch rims are gorgeous. Inside, the car is very well appointed. Seats are made of nice leather and are very comfortable (even in the back). The wood steering wheel ads a luxury look to the inside. Controls are easy to use, well placed and are intuitive. The in-dash 6-CD changed is fantastic and BOSE sound really rocks.
Over the course of the year, the only time the car was in the shop was to refresh my brakes and change the oil. Nothing else!
I really love this car and would recommend it to anyone who wants a comfortable reliable SUV.
